Diabetes
is a group of work-related illnesses in which a person has a high level of
glucose in the body due to his or her inability to make enough insulin or his
body cells cannot use existing insulin or else the body has problems both of
them together. Diabetes suffers from frequent urination (polyuria), constant
thirst (polydipsia) and hunger (polyphagia).
There
are three types of diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes and Gestational
Diabetes
TYPE 1 DIABETES
The
body of this type of diabetes does not produce insulin at all. Diabetes of this
type is sometimes called insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or
early-onset diabetes. People develop diabetes when they are under 40 and
especially in their early teenage years. Diabetes is diagnosed with fewer
people than other types of diabetes, about 10% of all diabetes patients have
type 2 diabetes.
A
patient with this type of diabetes will have to take insulin injections
throughout his or her life and must always ensure his or her blood sugar levels
are correct by taking measurements and following a specific diet plan.
TYPE 2 DIABETES.
The
body does not make enough insulin or the body's cells fail to use its insulin
(insulin resistance). Almost 90% of diabetes patients in the world suffer from
this type of diabetes. People who are obese and overweight are at higher risk
of developing type 2 diabetes than those who are normal. Being overweight or
underweight causes the body to release chemicals that disrupt the body's
digestive system to supply energy and stimulate the body. Being overweight, not
exercising and not focusing on how to eat well, puts a person at higher risk of
developing this type of diabetes. For example, taking just one soda a day
increases your risk of developing diabetes. The risk of developing this type of
diabetes also increases with age, the exact cause is not known yet but perhaps
as age increases a person gains weight and decreases the activity of the body.
It also seems that someone with a close relative has this disease, and he or
she can also get it. People from the Middle East, Africa and southern Asia
suffer from type 2 diabetes. Having low levels of testosterone hormone has been
shown to play a role in causing this type of diabetes. Experts say that low
levels of testosterone in the body have to do with insulin resistance. There
are some people who have been able to control the disease by reducing their
body weight, following good diet plans, exercising their bodies and taking
regular tests to know their blood sugar levels. But type 2 diabetes is a
disease that grows daily and its symptoms increase daily, so eventually the
patient will have to be given insulin. Patients with this type of diabetes are
often supplemented with insulin.
GESTATIONAL DIABETES
This
is the diabetes that women get when they are pregnant. Some women have very
high levels of glucose in their blood and their bodies are not able to produce
enough insulin to transport the glucose up to their body cells and thus
increase the level of sugar in their bodies.
DIABETES
IS A PROBLEM OF DIET
Diabetes
mellitus is considered to be a food problem in the body. The human body uses
dissolved food to keep it strong and growing. Many of the foods we eat are
broken down by getting glucose, a type of sugar in the blood that is the main
source of energy in the human body. After food is dissolved, glucose enters the
bloodstream. The body's cells use that glucose to gain energy and grow. But
cells cannot absorb that glucose without the presence of insulin, which is the
secret of insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. After eating,
the pancreas provides enough insulin to allow cells to absorb the glucose
present in the blood, and once that glucose is absorbed by the cells, the blood
sugar level drops. A person with diabetes is a person whose blood glucose level
is high (hyperglycemia) because their body does not make insulin, does not make
enough insulin or cells cannot use insulin produced by the pancreas. Its income
is an increase in the level of sugar in the blood which is later released into
the body through the urine. A diabetic has a high glucose content in his blood
but the body fails to use that glucose for use to gain energy and grow. In the
following pages we will look at the symptoms of diabetes and the side effects
associated with having the disease, diet and exercise for the diabetic person
and finally the treatment for the diabetic person using insulin. We will also
see how sugar can cause blindness and numbness in the body and even weaken the
kidneys. Dear reader, please do not hesitate to ask us questions or give your
opinion on this topic. We will be more than happy to respond to you or receive
your feedback.
