MATERIAL SPECIFICATION FOR PLUMBING AND FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM.

Plumbing is the system that conveys fluids for a wide range of applications. Plumbing uses pipes, valves, plumbing fixture, tanks and other apparatuses to convey fluids. Heating and cooling, waste removal, firefighting system are among the most common uses of plumbing.

WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM

The water supply system is direct system since the water is tapped directly from DAWASA, this is due to the existence of underground pipes that take water from the main service line to the nearby building.

COLD WATER SUPPLY PIPES AND FITTINGS

Supply pipe

· 40mm diameter HDPE cold water supply pipe, form the main service line to water meter to the IPS pipe, the pipe is laid in trench, supplied by DPI SIMBA or any other equal and approved manufacturer

· The trench is 600mm overage depth

· The pipe supplies cold water fitted with all necessary fittings

Distribution pipes

· High pressure 30m diameter IPS pipe with high molecular Homopolymer Polypropylene CH-PP with threaded fittings of H-PP in running lengths. Laying vertically, held with metal clips to the tank background, with all necessary accessories.

· Low pressure 15mm diameter IPS pipe with high molecular Homopolymer Polypropylene CH-PP with threaded fittings of H-PP in running lengths, fixed to 150mm thick blockwork with all necessary accessories

· 12mm diameter high pressure IPS pipe to the appliances with all necessary accessories

Pipe fittings

· PVC saddle clamp, with the diameter of two ends equal to that of the service pipe, and one side with 40mm diameter supplied by DPI SIMBA or any other equal and approved.

· 40mm diameter HDPE pipe for reducer, elbow, bend jointed as specified, manufactured and supplied by DPI SIMBA or any other equal and approved manufacturer

· IPS pipe with high molecular Homopolymer Polypropylene CH-PP with threaded fittings of H-PP for reducer, bends, elbow, nipple and socket

Valves

· 30mm diameter equilibrium ball valve with plastic floating ball

· 15mm diameter brass stop valve to BS 1010 with screwed male connectors jointed to IPS pipe both ends in gun metal

· 12mm diameter brass gate valve with screwed male connectors jointed to the appliances both ends in gun metal supplied by DPI SIMBA or any other equal and approved manufacturer.

· Tank/cistern fill valve made of plastic material

WATER STORAGE

Ground water tank SIMTANK, 5000litres as manufactured by KIBOKO M.M industry limited, mounted on a concrete platform 800mm high. Complete with all necessary accessories and connectors for incoming and outgoing pipes.

FOUL WATER DISCHARGE SYSTEM

1. PIPES

· 100mm diameter PVC pipe from the WCs and urinals to the manholes and from the manholes to the university sewer fixed with all necessary accessories

· 38mm diameter PVC pipe from sinks and wash hand basins to the gully traps, as manufactured by DPI SIMBA or any other equal and approved manufacturer, fixed with all necessary accessories.

Fittings

· 100mm PVC elbow

· 38mm PVC elbow

2. MANHOLES

· 600 x 600 mm manhole with an average depth of 450mm to the inspection chambers and then directly to the university sewer system. With a concrete cover of 550 x 550mm.

· They are made of block wall of 230mm thick to BS 2028 type A, plastered externally

3. GULLY TRAPS

· 400 x 400mm gully trap with an average depth of 350mm from the pantry with a concrete cover 350 x 350 mm

· It is made of block wall of 230mm thickness to BS 2028 type A, plastered externally

APPLIANCES

European /western water closet

· 3 in number, the material is ceramic, designed to sit in a toilet, with a seat and cover,

· They are attached with the flush tank for flushing after usage. Normally small amount of water will be trapped inside the toilet itself by water seal of height 50mm

· The height of water closet is 550mm above the floor level

· The cover of the toilet is plastic

Urinals

· Made of porcelain material, they are against the wall type and are flush urinals

· They are flushed by manual handles, whereby each urinal is equipped with a button to activate the flush by pressing it

· They are provided with two openings one for the flush and the other for discharge

· They are 600mm above the floor level

· The inside width is 153mm

Flush tanks/cisterns

· Made of ceramic materials, they are 3 in number

· Directly attached to the water closet, with the capacity of 8 liters

· They have an automatic valve to fill the water in the tank after flush, mounted directly upon the bowl

· It is flushed by means of a dangling pull chain

Toilet Sinks

· Cast polymer, made of polymer resin that is mixed with marble materials, 4 in number, each basin is rectangular shape of 500 x 400mm and 152mm deep.

· They have a plug, to keep water in the basin when needed to, holes for drainage

· They are elevated at 875mm high above the floor level, both sinks are under mount basins

Pantry sinks

· 1000 x 500mm stainless steel single bowl kitchen sink with high neck chrome pillar tap, mounted to block wall in brackets

· The sink has an outlet pipe of 38mm diameter.

· Mouth of the outlet pipe is provided with grating of brass in order to prevent entry of coarse solid substances.
