US basketball star Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna are
among the nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
Bryant died at the age of 41, and was traveling by private
helicopter which crashed and burned.
A Los Angeles police chief says no one survived the crash.
Earlier reports said that there were five people aboard the
plane.
Bryant, who is a five-time NBA Basketball Champion, was
recognized worldwide in the history of being one of the best basketball players.
Greetings from celebrities and teammates have been pouring
in to show the shock of the basketball star's death.
All the basketball stadiums in the United States set aside
time to keep quiet in honor of the player.
Bryant will be remembered at the Grammy Awards that were
being presented at the LA Lakers Stadium, a place he had been playing for the
entire season.
"We are confused and very sad right now," said
Grammys presenter Alicia Keys.
"Because earlier today in the city of Los Angeles, the
United States and the world at large we have lost a hero.
We are deeply saddened to lose Kobe Bryant, and that is why
we stand today in the house he built. "
The NBA released a statement saying that it was deeply
saddened by the accident that led to the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter,
13-year-old Gianna.
"For 20 seasons, Kobe showed us what is possible for
someone who is talented and eager to win," he said.
HOW DID THE ACCIDENT HAPPEN?
Police officer Alex Villanueva said that the helicopter
showed up to nine people when it crashed, eliminating the number of five people
mentioned earlier by the officers.
In a statement issued by the city of Calabasas they said
they had received the report with great sadness.
"The plane crashed on the outskirts of Las Virgenes in
the early morning hours of the United States. No one survived, he added.
Gavin Masak, who was living near the scene when the incident
occurred, told CBS News station that the helicopter crashed.
Another witness said that he heard the engine crashing even
before the plane landed.
LA police have shown footage of the crash showing a fire
truck and smoke coming from the mountains.
The national transport board has identified the crashed
aircraft as a Sikorsky S-76B and said it would send its squadron to investigate
the cause of the crash.

Bryant played basketball for 20-points at the Los Angeles
Lakers. He quit playing football in April 2016.
His achievements include being the 2008 NBA champion, twice
emerging as the best.
He was also the NBA's best scorer as well as a two-time
Olympic champion.
He averaged 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in 2006,
in NBA sports history.

Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, had three other daughters
namely Natalia, Bianca and Capri.
Bryant was indicted for a sexual assault case in 2003, by a
19-year-old daughter who worked at a Coloradot restaurant. He denied the
allegations, saying that they had romantic relationships to agree to.
The case was dismissed after the man accused of refusing to
testify in court.
Although he later apologized for the act and said the reason
it was the girl he was with did not have the same attitude as his when they
were in their relationship.
